The Supportive and Palliative Care service at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) supports patients with life limiting illnesses and complex symptom control.
The team of consultants, registrars and nurses are an advisory and visiting service who work alongside wards across all four hospital sites:
- Good Hope Hospital
- Heartlands Hospital
- Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham
- Solihull Hospital
The Supportive and Palliative Care service aims to provide patients and families with:
- symptom advice (e.g. nausea and vomiting, pain, shortness of breath, constipation)
- psychological and emotional support
- information and advice
- details of other support services, including financial advice
- help arranging a complex discharge
- help accessing services at home or hospice care
- support nearing the end of life
The Supportive and Palliative Care service will liaise with nurses, doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, chaplaincy, social services and other significant staff involved in your care both in hospital and at home.
The team also provide clinical advice and education to doctors and nurses at UHB.

The Supportive and Palliative Care team’s hospital working hours are:
- Monday – Friday, 08:00 – 18:00
- Saturday – Sunday and bank holidays, 08:30 – 16:30
