From large hospitals with world-class facilities, to clinics doing vital work in the community, University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) has sites across Birmingham, Solihull and the West Midlands.

Our hospitals
Good Hope Hospital
Located in the Royal town of Sutton Coldfield, approximately 7 miles north of Birmingham city centre, Good Hope Hospital is just a few minutes’ walk from bijou shops, bars and cafes. Sutton Park, the largest urban park in England, is also a short walk away from the hospital.
This 450-bedded district hospital serves North Birmingham, Sutton Coldfield and the more rural communities of south east Staffordshire, as well as historic Lichfield and Tamworth.
The hospital provides acute and general medicine and other specialist services. It's also home to the Partnership Learning Centre, which is part-funded by the Medical School of the University of Birmingham.
Heartlands Hospital
Heartlands Hospital is based at the heart of a thriving, diverse and largely residential area of the city. A large but friendly site, it provides all the major specialties including maternity, paediatric, A&E and outpatient services.
The site also is home to the Medical Innovation Development Research Unit (MIDRU) and the region’s Centre for Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine.
Further investment in the hospital site will see the opening of a multi-million pound Heartlands Treatment Centre in late 2022.
Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham
Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB), whose main building opened in June 2010, is located on what is known as the QE Campus in Edgbaston, a leafy suburb of Birmingham.
The campus is Birmingham’s health science epicentre. The campus is also home to the Heritage Building (our original Queen Elizabeth Hospital), the Institute of Translational Medicine, University of Birmingham, Birmingham Women’s Hospital, Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust and other facilities, such as research units.
The campus also boasts community orchards and gardens where staff patients and visitors grow fruit and veg, keep bees and plant wild flowers to encourage native wildlife. The hospital’s fortnightly Farmers’ Market is a great way to pick up supplies and support local businesses.
Solihull Hospital
Solihull Hospital is a small district hospital serving south Birmingham and the villages around Solihull, a market town located to the south east of Birmingham.
The hospital is located in the centre of Solihull’s upmarket town centre, just a short stroll from the Touchwood Shopping Centre, bars, restaurants and Brueton Park on the banks of the river Blythe.
It provides a range of outpatient, inpatient and emergency care services (including minor injuries unit) and GP-based services for its local community. It is also the regional centre for dermatology.
Getting to work
There are lots of options for getting to work, and many staff choose to commute via public transport. We’ve negotiated discounted travel cards for buses, trains and Metro routes across the city so it’s not only easy, but affordable too.
Good Hope Hospital (Sutton Coldfield)
Good Hope Hospital is within easy reach of Sutton Coldfield’s beautiful Royal town centre.
The hospital is a short walk from Sutton Coldfield station, on the Cross City line which is served every 10 minutes to 20 minutes throughout the day.
There are also four bus routes serving the hospital, and linking it to Birmingham city centre.
Heartlands Hospital (East Birmingham)
There are six bus routes serving the Heartlands site, which is located in East Birmingham between the city centre and the famous NEC and international airport complex. The nearest train station to Heartlands Hospital is Stechford, approximately two miles away.
Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (Edgbaston)
There are sixteen bus routes within a five-minute walk of QEHB’s main entrance.
University station is also within a short walk of the hospital, with local train services every 10 to 20 minutes and regional train services to Cheltenham and Nottingham.
These excellent transport links make public transport a popular choice for many of our staff.
Solihull Hospital
Located close to the M42 and M6 interchange and Birmingham International Airport, Solihull Hospital is well served by a number of bus routes and a direct train line from Birmingham city centre and surrounding villages. The hospital is just a 10-minute walk from Solihull town centre and main public transport hubs.
Other ways to get to work
Cycling is a popular way to get around Birmingham, thanks to the network of cycle routes and canal towpaths around the city. You can take advantage of cycle storage, shower facilities and cycling discount schemes to help you get on your bike for less.
We encourage staff to use public transport, or to walk or cycle wherever possible, but for those who do need to drive, we do have on-site parking (via our corporate parking pass scheme) and a convenient, free park and ride service.
Travelling from further afield?
Birmingham is linked by the M5, M6, M40 and M42.
New Street Station is at the heart of the national rail network, with fast and frequent services to London, Liverpool, Manchester and Cardiff. Moor Street and Snow Hill stations in the city centre also provide excellent links.
Birmingham International Airport has regular flights to more than 100 worldwide destinations, including Pakistan, Dubai and the USA.

Birmingham Chest Clinic is situated in Birmingham city centre and offers cutting-edge surgical procedures and clinics in a variety of expert disciplines.
Norman Power Centre
Located in the Ladywood area of the city, the centre provides high-quality inpatient care for UHB patients while they are waiting for the next stage in their care.
Umbrella
The Umbrella sexual health service is run by UHB, and has clinics across Birmingham, including two in the city centre, and Solihull.
